The Wolfman

Feb 18 2010 Published by under Movies

How do you make a movie that a) stars Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, and Emily Blunt and b) just barely – and I mean just fucking barely – turns out to be mediocre? I have no idea, but I’m sure Joe Johnston could tell you. After all, Universal Pictures let him direct The Wolfman.

Manhood for Amateurs

Feb 15 2010 Published by under Books

I would never admit it to my wife, but I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I’M DOING.  Neither do any of my friends, married or otherwise.  Bros everywhere share a secret; that of being completely terrified in the face of life’s expectations as a grown-ass man.  To that end, Michael Chabon has broken the code of silence, and provided a manifesto, disguised as a loose narrative built from short essays, to help us all earn our beards.

METAL AS FUCK.

Nivea For Men Active3

Feb 15 2010 Published by under Products

I’m usually wary of trying FANCY PRODUCTS FOR MEN but I see a dermatologist regularly for skin cancer check ups, and when he saw my pores a few years ago once we had my rampant melanin tamped down he asked what I wash with, and I said “I just use a bar of Irish Spring for everything.” Then he grunted at me and told Diana about some things I could try, maybe some things that wouldn’t dry my skin out so much that it cracks. That’s how we eventually ended up at Nivea Active3.

I’ve used this for a few weeks now, and it is pretty good. I have weird / sensitive skin that has always been part dry and part oily so I don’t usually like to use most types of shaving cream: my complex manscape makes most shaving creams unusable as they end up irritating my face-business. This stuff functions very well as a moderately man-smelling shower soap, a shampoo for when you are lazy / depressed / hungover-and-know-you-aren’t-leaving-the-house-so-can’t-be-bothered-to-use-shampoo, and as a soap solution for shaving your face.

Mr Chopsticks – Denton, TX

Feb 13 2010 Published by under Restaurants

(Cross-posted to Yelp)

Mr. Chopsticks is not crazy gourmet. I think of it as the Asian equivalent of a really good neighborhood deli or pizza joint. I love eating here because I’ve been eating here for years, I am familiar with the staff, and I see my friends there all the time.

Buffet King – Denton, TX

Feb 13 2010 Published by under Restaurants

(Cross-posted to Yelp)

Buffet King is always packed and Diana and I wanted to know why. You find out one reason when you walk in the front door: the prices are reasonable. Lunch buffet on the weekend was $7 and change, and the total bill for two buffets and two drinks was right at $20.

Google Buzz

Feb 12 2010 Published by under Tech

You probably don’t need Google Buzz, but so what? Unlike most new social media applications, Buzz is not a train wreck from the get-go, it integrates well with other applications and platforms, and if you already use Google, you’ll find even more integration to satisfy your lifestream piping needs.
